Autism Assessment
What does RocketEd offer?
RocketEd provides a multidisciplinary autism assessment pathway for children and young people, led by a highly experienced team working in close collaboration. Our service delivers thorough, evidence-based assessments that result in clear, thoughtful outcomes to support families with confidence and clarity.
Assessments are carried out by a team comprising a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and HCPC-registered Educational Psychologists, alongside a dedicated Autism Advisor. Our clinicians are trained to clinical reliability in the use of recognised gold-standard diagnostic tools — the Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised (ADI‑R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS‑2). All diagnostic decisions are reached through careful discussion within the multidisciplinary team.
At RocketEd, we combine clinical rigour with deep expertise in child development, education, and emotional wellbeing. Our approach reflects national best practice and is delivered with empathy, integrity, and professionalism. Our assessments consider whether a child or young person meets internationally recognised diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum condition (DSM‑5 and ICD‑10). Where criteria are met, a formal diagnosis is provided by the team, alongside clear, practical recommendations tailored to the child’s needs at home, at school, and in the wider community.
A Multi-Professional, Child-Centred Approach
RocketEd autism assessments are delivered through a flexible model combining online and in-person elements. Face-to-face sessions take place in a calm, therapeutic space within a beautiful listed building in North London.
We take an inclusive, ethical approach, with the child or young person’s wellbeing and voice at the centre. All assessments are discussed jointly within the team, ensuring that diagnostic decisions reflect a robust, holistic picture of each individual. All RocketEd clinicians are HCPC- or GMC-registered, and our practice aligns fully with the standards set out by NICE.
What’s Included in a RocketEd Autism Assessment?
Parent/Carer Interview (ADI-R): a comprehensive, structured developmental interview exploring the child or young person’s early history, communication, social interaction, and behavioural patterns. This is conducted remotely or in person (approx. 2 hours).
Child/Young Person Observation (ADOS-2): a face-to-face play- or conversation-based session using the ADOS‑2, designed to assess the child or young person’s social communication, interaction, and imagination (approx. 1 hour).
Educational Input: with consent, we seek input from the child or young person’s educational setting to understand how they engage socially, emotionally, and academically in an everyday context.
Full Multidisciplinary Report: you will receive a detailed report summarising assessment findings, a clear diagnostic conclusion (where criteria are met), and tailored recommendations to support the child or young person at home, in education, and beyond.
What Does The Assessment Lead To?
All assessments are reviewed within our multidisciplinary team, which includes both educational psychology and psychiatry expertise. Where diagnostic criteria are met, the team provides a formal autism diagnosis. Where autism is not indicated, the report will explain the findings clearly and outline recommendations for support and next steps. This model ensures all diagnostic decisions are made with appropriate clinical oversight, in accordance with NICE CG128.
Follow-Up Autism Support
We believe families deserve not only clear answers, but thoughtful guidance. When a diagnosis is given, a follow-up session with our Autism Advisor, Stephanie Dennis, will be provided as part of the autism assessment package. This session offers an opportunity to explore the findings in more depth, consider practical next steps, and access tailored resources and signposting to support your child and family.
Who Carries Out The Assessment?
Our autism assessments are overseen by a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising psychiatric and educational psychology expertise, working collaboratively to review each case and contribute to diagnostic decision-making. While not all clinicians are directly involved in every assessment, all team members contribute their professional expertise to ensure a robust, well-rounded conclusion.
When our clinicians identify that a child or young person’s speech, language or communication needs require further investigation, we advise families and signpost to appropriate speech and language therapy services. All assessments are delivered in line with NICE guidance and tailored to the individual needs of each child or young person.
