What is neurodiversity coaching?
Neurodiversity coaching is a personalised support service for children, young people and their families. Our neurodiversity coaches help you and your child understand how their brain works, with a focus on recognising strengths and differences, developing practical strategies, and building confidence, self-awareness, and resilience. Rather than trying to “fix” difficulties, coaching is about empowering neurodivergent individuals to thrive in environments that may not always be designed with them in mind.
Who can benefit from neurodiversity coaching?
Our coaches support a wide range of individuals with a diagnosis (such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or dyspraxia), as well as those without, who might be neurodivergent and want to better understand their learning or processing differences. We support families and carers who would like help making sense of neurodivergence and developing strategies that work at home and in educational settings. In addition, we offer training to schools or parent groups seeking to build their understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive practice.
How does the coaching process work?
One of our experienced coaches meets with you or your child - either at home or in their educational setting - to explore how they experience the world, what their strengths are, what challenges they face, and what they would like to achieve. Working with you, they will help develop strategies and resources that suit their profile, which may include organisation and focus tools, emotional regulation techniques, communication supports, or adjustments within their home or school environment. The coach works alongside you, your child or young person to implement these strategies, review progress, and make adjustments as needed. We can also provide training for parents or educators to build understanding and consistency across settings.
Does my child need a formal diagnosis for me to access neurodiversity coaching?
No – a diagnosis isn’t required. Neurodiversity coaching is based on supporting how someone thinks, learns, and experiences the world, regardless of whether a diagnosis is in place. While an existing assessment can help inform the approach, our focus is on what’s happening day-to-day and how best to help the individual succeed.
What outcomes can I expect from neurodiversity coaching?
People who engage in our neurodiversity coaching sessions report greater self-understanding and self-acceptance, along with improved confidence and resilience. Many develop effective strategies for managing daily tasks, emotional regulation, and communication. Coaching also supports improved collaboration between home and school, helping create more inclusive and supportive environments that work with - not against - individual neurodivergent profiles.
How many sessions will we need, and how long do they last?
The number of sessions varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some children or young people benefit from a short, focused block of around four to six sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly, and the length is agreed at the start to fit with the family’s schedule and preferences.
Where does neurodiversity coaching take place?
Coaching is delivered face-to-face, either at home or in child or young person’s educational setting, depending on what works best for them and for you. In some cases, online sessions may also be available - please get in touch to discuss your needs.
How is neurodiversity coaching different from assessment or therapy?
Neurodiversity coaching differs from both diagnostic assessment or therapy. Assessment seeks to understand whether a person meets the criteria for a particular neurotype, while therapy often focuses on emotional wellbeing or mental health. Coaching, on the other hand, is practical and future-focused. It supports children and young people to understand how their brain works best, recognise their strengths, and develop personalised strategies to manage everyday challenges at home, school, or work with greater confidence and ease.
Can schools or parent groups book training about neurodiversity?
Yes. We regularly provide training to schools and parent groups on neurodiversity and inclusive practice. Sessions are tailored to your audience and setting, helping staff or parents gain the knowledge and tools to better support neurodivergent children and young people.
