Speech and Language Therapy

As parents ourselves, we have watched as our children have learned to communicate, using their developing skills to express their wants, needs and opinions. But what happens when children struggle with speech, language and communication ?

Perhaps your child isn’t reaching the milestones you would expect at their age. Maybe they have very few words and are getting frustrated, or their speech is difficult for other people to understand. It could be that they struggle to follow instructions, or their expressive language is jumbled, contains errors, or is hard to comprehend. Perhaps your child is finding it hard to make and keep friends, or they seem to lack social understanding. Nursery staff or teachers may report to you that they have noticed some of these difficulties and feel that they are affecting your child’s learning and development.

If this sounds like your child, the RocketEd Speech and Language Therapy service is here to support you. We offer a range of packages for children and young people to ensure that we adopt the best approach for each child. Package options include screening, full assessment, diagnostic therapy and blocks of therapeutic input.

We highly value parents and teachers both throughout assessment and therapy. All intervention will commence with a consultation with you, to explore your views on your child’s strengths and needs, and to hear your main concerns and priorities. We will then spend time working directly with your child using a combination of formal and informal assessment, conversation, play and games. This will enable us to gain a holistic understanding of your child, their areas of difficulty and how their communication and learning may be impacted as a result. Key adults are an important part of our work and so we encourage parents or school staff to be present in our sessions. This provides us with regular opportunities to explain our targets, to share and model effective ways of working, which can be put in place to support the child with their learning in their everyday environment, both at home and at school.

Once we have got to know your child, we are then able to feedback our findings to you and to your child’s educational setting. We will produce a report, make recommendations and provide advice and guidance regarding best ways to support your child in developing their skills, taking their specific difficulties into account.

For those children or young people requiring ongoing therapeutic input, this may take place at home, at school or at our rooms in North London. Location will be decided on a case-by-case basis and will be discussed and agreed in advance.
